Our Teamwork Ethic
At Coffey Bros. Moving, teamwork continues after the workday ends. The Coffey Bros. Moving FC (Football Club) brings employees and management together for competitive soccer, shared challenges and a chance to keep playing a sport they love. Organized by company owner Ken Coffey, the after-work team plays at TOCA Soccer Center Naperville, an indoor soccer and sports complex located at 1740 Quincy Ave, Naperville, IL 60540. The purpose goes beyond winning matches: the Coffey Bros. Moving FC helps build an ethic of teamwork, trust and camaraderie among workers and management. These relationships forged on the soccer field carry from the soccer field into the workplace.
An Unusual Lineup
This isn’t your average company soccer team. Coffey Bros. Moving employees include players with professional soccer experience in Mexico, bringing considerable talent and competitive spirit to the field. The team members collectively have backgrounds connected with professional clubs including Pachuca, Chivas, Zacatepec, Cafetaleros, Correcaminos, Tigres, Atlético San Luis, Necaxa, León and Santos, along with World Cup-level experience.
“Then you’ve got me trying to keep up with them after work, which makes it pretty interesting,” says Ken. (Ken played soccer competitively in college.)
Stronger Connections and Better Teamwork
Soccer demands communication, trust and an understanding of everyone’s role. Those same qualities matter during a move, when a crew must coordinate closely, support one another and work toward a shared goal. “Soccer forces you to communicate, trust the person next to you and understand that everybody has a role,” Ken explains. “That’s very similar to what happens during a move. One person can’t do everything by himself.” Competing together gives coworkers another way to build those habits. Every pass, defensive effort and shared challenge creates an opportunity to communicate and depend on one another.
For Ken, playing alongside employees also creates a space to connect beyond everyday job responsibilities. “Once we’re playing, being the owner of the company doesn’t mean anything,” he says. “If I make a bad pass, they’re going to tell me about it.”
That spirit is central to the Coffey Bros. Moving FC (Football Club). Workers and management laugh together, compete together and get to know each other as people. Participation is voluntary, and the shared enjoyment of soccer gives those relationships room to grow naturally. Whether coordinating a move or working toward the next goal, Coffey Bros. Moving FC celebrates a simple belief: strong teams are built through communication, mutual trust and people who enjoy working together.
Our workers work very hard everyday and they are grounded in their work and do it with the same interest and drive which they bring to the soccer field.
